Designed for students interested in K-12 school-based and central office leadership positions, supervisory positions, and increased responsibility in teaching, this program places an emphasis on generating research productivity, developing responsible leaders and effective practitioners, and maintaining academic rigor. Graduates will demonstrate increased technical, conceptual, political and leadership skills and will be equipped to pursue advanced levels of professional responsibilities in diverse school communities.
The Educational Leadership and Administration program is approved to prepare educational leaders for licensure eligibility by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education and is nationally recognized as a program of distinction by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Additionally, the Educational Leadership and Administration program has garnered national recognition from the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).
Graduates of the programs in Educational Leadership and Administration will be prepared to take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) for administrative or supervisory licensure. Licensing requirements vary from state to state; therefore, students are encouraged to contact their HR Department or their state's Department of Education for all licensure requirements.
